Born in Chelmsford, Essex. I taught myself to paint by observing nature and studying the work of other artists, in particular the Impressionists. I don't like to mess about with nature too much, but rather paint what I see. Soft pastels are my medium of choice. I love the direct nature of them and they have a vibrant depth that is equal to oil paint in my opinion.   Good quality pastel paintings, framed under Glass etc. can look as good in a few hundred years as they did the day they were painted.
